What a remarkable story about love of God and family. I can still remember meeting them for the first time. Your grandfather had a surprisingly strong handshake, your grandmother kept stuffing me with meatballs, saying I still needed to grow (at 6'7" how much more growing did I need?), and singing their hymn at the table for the first time. I often hear the phrase 'Kingdom living', and they are the perfect example.

Lori,
What a beautiful remembrance of your grandparents, especially Gustav! They are truly amazing, wonderful people. I know, because I'm their daughter-in-law. I know you are proud of your heritage and love them very much. Thanks for sharing their inspiring story with others. Love, Mom

Lori

Thanks, you two. I'm so glad you liked it! I wish grandpa could read it :)

Lori,
Their blood is coursing through your veins. What a gift.....such devotion, humility and faithfulness. Perhaps you can/should see them one more time? Let's lift it up.

Lori, Thanks for doing this blog. It is cool to hear the perspective of a grandchild!! I have to chuckle at Bruce's comment about grandpa's handshake because he can still almost break you fingers when you shake his hand. It is interesting how he notices detail. For instance, he thinks my mom's glasses are too small!! His cover half his face so the new style must be a shocker too him. He also told my mom that she is beautiful so of course we think his mind is all there still!! Who can forget grandma's salad??!!! I always loved her meatballs too! Grandpa always was so gentle with us. He loved getting out his map and showing us where other cities were. He always could figure out how many miles exactly it was away from Regina. But the most precious memory is how he started his prayers each and very time we went there. In his german accent it always started "our gracious God and heavenly father"!! There prayers for us were always such a comort and we will probably never know until we get to heaven what they really did for us!! What a legacy they have left for us to carry the torch of being faithful to GOD NO MATTER WHAT!! God bless you!! Gaylene

This is one incredible story.

I can not believe your grandparents got married after 3 weeks and they are still together.

Thank you for sharing Lori.

Hi, Gaylene! So nice of you to stop by. I'm glad you liked the article. It's good to know that grandpa is still "with it" when it comes to noticing details.

Grandma's cooking was awesome - my personal favorite was her potato pancakes. I wish I had the recipe. Take care and say hi to Marlowe and the boys!

Vin, I'm so glad you took the time to come by as well. I really, really appreciate it.

We had a huge celebration many years ago for my grandparent's 50th anniversary, because we thought they wouldn't live much longer. At their 75th, we were laughing about how we could have waited and done quite so much for the 50th if we had known :)
